Special North Georgia Elections Moved to May 11
Special elections to fill vacant Congressional, State Senate and State House seats in North Georgia will be held May 11 instead of April 27.
In the 9th Congressional District – consisting of extreme North Georgia counties west of Hall, White & Union – voters will select a replacement for Nathan Deal in the U.S. House.
In the 49th State Senate District – consisting of Hall and a northwest section of Jackson County – voters will fill the legislative seat formerly held by Sen. Lee Hawkins
In the 12th State House District – consisting mostly of Pickens & Gordon counties – voters will replace Rep. Tom Graves.
All three elections will be held on May 11.
Runoff elections, if necessary, will be held June 8.
Be sure you are registered to vote:
Voters must be registered at least 30 days before a given election.
Contact your County Registrar for the deadline.
If you’ve moved to another district in Georgia you must re-register after 30 days at your new address.
You can register to vote at the office of your County Registrar or you can register online at the office of the Georgia Secretary of State at: sos.georgia.gov/elections/
To be eligible to register or vote in the state of Georgia, you must be:
• A citizen of the United States
• A legal resident of Georgia and of the county in which you wish to vote
• At least 18 years of age by election day

CHICAGO (AP) -- Rev up the treadmill: Sobering new research spells out just how much exercise women need to keep the flab off as they age - and it's a lot.
At least an hour of moderate activity a day is needed for older women at a healthy weight who aren't dieting. For those who are already overweight - and that's most American women - even more exercise is called for to avoid gaining weight without eating less, the study results suggest.

Has even the Last Supper been supersized?
The food in famous paintings of the meal has grown by biblical proportions over the last millennium, researchers report in a medical journal Tuesday.
Using a computer, they compared the size of the food to the size of the heads in 52 paintings of Jesus Christ and his disciples at their final meal before his death.
If art imitates life, we're in trouble, the researchers conclude. The size of the main dish grew 69 percent; the size of the plate, 66 percent, and the bread, 23 percent, between the years 1000 and 2000.

Nancy Schaefer
Nancy Schaefer was a powerful influence in my life. She stood for life in every possible way. Her death, regardless of the circumstances, does not diminish my love and respect for the life she lived. The quote below is a belief she stood for and one I will live the rest of my life standing for:
A quote from Nancy Schaefer in 2004: "You know my heart. You know my burning desire to do everything in my power to protect freedom and liberty for our children, our grandchildren, and for the next generation.” Continuing she said, “I believe those of us who uphold the U.S. Constitution, free enterprise, less government, lower taxes, the 2nd Amendment, more individual responsibility, the Ten Commandments, the sanctity of life, and the traditional family must be involved in strengthening our society and our culture on any level available to us."
This was part of an address to the WRAF listening audience as Nancy stepped down from her radio commentary to run for Georgia State Senate in 2004. I am heartbroken over her loss and am praying non-stop for her family.
