Come tour our broadcast facility at Toccoa Falls College, meet your favorite air-personalities, and enjoy homemade goodies plus hot coffee, apple cider, and cocoa.

Christmas is a time to remember Jesus for the gift of salvation he offers to everyone who believes in Him and we want to honor Him by giving gifts. There’s gifts from our ministry partners for everyone who attends the open-house.

We are also asking you to bring a gift to help us stock a local food pantry and pregnancy resource center. If at all possible bring a can food item or something that would benefit a struggling mother who makes that bold decision to keep her baby.

WRAF is located at the entrance of Toccoa Falls College and you can find driving directions at myfavoritestation.net and of course you can call us at 800-251-8326.

Congratulations to Pastor Clinton Potters and the entire congregation!

Dan nominated the church and says, "Pastor Potters delivers the gospel for these last days in an un-coated, straight forward manner as led by the Holy Spirit. We have outreach programs in place to reach the homeless and hurting, and we are reaching around the world via the world wide web to set the captives free. Pastor Potters and co-pastor Sherry Potters have a true love for the things of God and for the hurting people of this world. They are ever ready to support and aid anyone in need. They are not only talking the talk, but walking the walk as Jesus said we should. In all my fifty-seven years, I have never found a more loving and caring man and woman of God. As a result of their leadership, the entire church exhibits the same love and compassion they see in their pastors."

Announcement Regarding Dr. James Dobson

Focus on the Family founder and chairman emeritus James C. Dobson, Ph.D., will leave the ministry as its primary radio voice at the end of February, the ministry announced today.

Dr. Dobson’s departure from the radio program and from official affiliation with the organization he founded in 1977 is just the "third chapter in a transition that began in 2003," when Dr. Dobson stepped down as Focus president, said Jim Daly, the ministry's president and CEO. It was a mutual decision between Dr. Dobson and the ministry’s board of directors, which Dr. Dobson left in February of this year, Daly added.

"The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season – and Dr. Dobson's season at Focus on the Family has been remarkable," Daly said. "He has done a superlative job in modeling the graceful transition of leadership from one generation to the next."

"We're excited about continuing the work he began, and following the biblical principles he's always followed, to reach today's families."

Dobson, who will continue to record new radio broadcasts between now and the end of February, remains "a man of health and vigor" and will continue to make his voice heard in the public square, Daly said.

"Dr. Dobson is a wordsmith, but one word I don't suspect we'll hear him using is 'retirement,'" Daly explained. "We wish him great success in whatever he decides to tackle next."

"Focus on the Family has never been about one man," he added. "That's why Dr. Dobson has always refused to have his name put on any building here. It’s about doing the Lord’s work in helping families."

Update on "Extreme Makeover" Hughes family

Tips for Fire Safety

*Watch what you're cooking. Stay in the kitchen when you're frying, grilling or broiling food. If you must leave, even for a short time, turn off the stove.

*Give space heaters space. Keep fixed and portable space heaters at least three feet from anything that can burn. Turn off heaters when you leave the room or go to sleep.

*Smoke outside and keep matches and lighters out of reach. Ask smokers to smoke outside. Have sturdy, deep ashtrays for smokers. Keep matches and lighters up high, out of the reach of children, preferably in a cabinet with a child lock.

*Inspect electrical cords. Replace cords that are cracked or damaged, have broken plugs or have loose connections.

*Be careful when using candles. Keep candles at least one foot from anything that can burn. Blow out candles when you leave the room or go to sleep.

*Have a home fire escape plan. Make a home fire escape plan and practice it at least twice a year.

*Install and test smoke alarms. Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. Interconnect smoke alarms throughout the home. When one sounds, they all sound. Test smoke alarms at least once a month and replace batteries once a year or when the alarm chirps to tell you the battery is low. Replace any smoke alarm that is more than 10 years old.

*Install sprinklers. If you're building or remodeling your home, install residential fire sprinklers. Sprinklers can contain and may even extinguish a fire in less time than it would take the fire department to arrive.

Dawson County to hold Smoke Detector Giveaway for residents

Beginning October 27, Dawson County Emergency Services and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be knocking on doors to offer and install the free smoke detectors and batteries: October 27 from 9am-12pm; Wednesday, October 28 from 1pm-4pm; and Thursday, October 29 from 9am-12pm.

FEMA / GEMA Closes Stephens County Recovery Center

ATLANTA –Five of the 14 Disaster Recovery Centers operated by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are closing. Officials urge residents to go to the centers to meet face-to-face with specialists to get information or assistance with their recovery from the mid-September flooding.

“Traffic has slowed at the centers we are closing,” said GEMA Director and State Coordinating Officer Charley English. “That’s good news, because it means we’ve likely met most of the information need, and help remains available through other sources.”

The following Disaster Recovery Centers will close at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10:

• Carroll County. Old Greenway Medical Building, 590 Hays Mill Road, Carrollton, GA 30117
• Catoosa County. Learning Center, 36 Muskogee Trail, Ringgold, GA 30736
• Chattooga County. Trion School, 919 Allgood St., Trion, GA 30753
• Rockdale County. Government Annex, 1400 Parker Road, Conyers, GA 30012
• Stephens County. Stephens County Senior Center, 199 Hayley Drive, Toccoa, GA 30577

Texas to commit $3 billion dollars to find a cure for cancer

as mentioned by Kathy Nicholson on Sunday October 4, 2009 on WRAF

Texas begins $3 billion quest to cure cancer

By PAUL J. WEBER
Associated Press Writer

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas gave birth to the modern oil industry, invented the handheld calculator and sent man to the moon. But can the Lone Star State cure cancer?

Texas is ready to try by investing $3 billion over the next decade in cancer research and prevention, which would make the state the gatekeeper of the second largest pot of cancer research dollars in the country, behind only the National Cancer Institute.

"I don't know anyone that would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with what they're trying to do," said Robert Urban, executive director of the Koch Institute for Innovative Cancer Research at MIT.

That gee-whiz impression is what Texas leaders sought in 2007, when the state created the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas through an ambitious bond measure approved by voters. Lance Armstrong, champion cyclist and cancer survivor, sold the plan to voters, and Gov. Rick Perry said he dreamed of a day "we talk about cancer the same way we talk about polio."

Texas is now putting out the call to scientists: Come and get the money.

Need Him Commercial Did Not Air

On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, the Gospel television commercial called “Something’s Not Right” was pulled from the broadcast schedule at the last minute. The commercial airtime was purchased by Need Him Ministries and was slated to run immediately before and after the Gates Foundation the 30-minute “Get Schooled: You Have the Right” documentary to support President Obama's speech on education. Sometime before broadcasting, and without explanation, the commercial was removed from the schedule.

The “Get Schooled: You Have the Right” documentary special was aired in the first programming “roadblock” of any kind across all Viacom networks, including BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, and Nickelodeon, at 8:00 PM ET in a nationwide broadcast. The “Something’s Not Right” commercial was scheduled for 7:59 PM and 8:31 PM ET. It was not shown at either timeslot.

Need Him staff members, seeking to discover the reason behind the change in programming, have received several explanations including, “it was pulled for content.” The TV commercial is simple and profound, using real people, not actors. And it relays a very direct message we were hoping to deliver to millions of homes on Tuesday night.

Church of the Week - September 14, 2009

Church of the Week - September 7, 2009

First Free Will Baptist Church of Hayesville, NC is the newest WRAF Church of the Week.

Congratulations to Pastor Chris Rumfelt and the entire congregation!

Carol nominated the church and says, "Our church is involved in the community in many ways. We have a Master Men's group that visits people on Tuesday nights and does good deeds for people in the community that can't do them for themselves. We are a Manna produce distribution point for Clay County each month. We have a Celebrate Recovery group that meets weekly on Thursdays for those recovering from drugs, alcohol abuse, divorce, etc. We're also involved with the Christian Love Ministries. We have a cancer support group that meets the first Monday of each month called Miracle Monday. We also pay a visit to the nursing home monthly. Our minister is involved in giving prayers and counseling students (especially those involved in athletic activities) at the local schools. He also does a lot of guest speaking and evangelistic work across the East Coast from Ohio to Florida. We have a youth group called SHOUT (Students Helping Others Understand Truth) that is active in the community as well. We also started the Carolina Christian Academy last year which currently has children enrolled from ages 4 through 7 in grades from pre-K through 2nd grade. In August, we will be opening a day care center which will handle children from infants through age 3 and includes an after-school program for children. One of the special programs we have every year around Memorial Day weekend is the Carolina Youth Retreat. It is a Christian retreat for youth from all across the Eastern USA. At this retreat, children and teens do activities in the community together (like horseback riding, white water rafting, etc), and attend church services with sermons geared toward the many issues they face on a daily basis (pressures from peers of sexual activity, drugs, alcohol, etc). We feed them all their meals over the 3 days they are at the retreat. Many souls are saved for the Lord during the retreat."

Swine Flu Information - Post to Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc

As mentioned by Kathy Nicholson on WRAF on Sunday August 30, 2009

Panel urges some swine flu vaccine next month

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government should speed availability of at least a little swine flu vaccine next month instead of in October, the president's scientific advisers recommended Monday. The report also urges that federal health officials do more social networking to put the young people targeted by the virus on notice; clarify who should use anti-flu drugs and how; and improve tracking of the fast-moving virus.

Read more of Nichole Nordeman's story Kathy Nicholson mentioned on Sunday August 30, 2009

Two years ago, I landed on the cover of CCM for the first time by myself. I wore a dress “borrowed” from Neiman Marcus, that I’m pretty sure cost three times my current monthly mortgage. To put it simply…it was the quintessential Cinderella dress. It was everything I’ve dreamt of being since I was 11 years old and I flittered around in layer upon layer of that glorious shimmering, flowing, sweeping gown while the photographer snapped away. I had just been on this insanely stupid diet for months, so that I could squeeze myself into the Cinderella getup, but one minute in that dress and I knew that every shunned bagel had been worth it.
